Linux kernel daily: NFS/ksmbd security fixes, NTFS/exFAT improvements, kexec and MIPS updates
A wide NFS client/server stabilization push, extensive ksmbd hardening, NTFS/exFAT reliability work, kexec/kdump memory fixes, and legacy Octeon board support land in mainline.
In brief
This batch is heavy on NFS and ksmbd security/stability fixes, while NTFS and exFAT gain meaningful correctness and feature work. kexec/kdump memory handling is hardened, legacy MIPS Octeon hardware gets mainline support, and ext4/btrfs receive targeted fixes.
NFS client and server
NFS-over-TLS receive path fixed and SELinux socket-read removed
Corrects TLS control-record length accounting, makes TLS alerts fatal when appropriate, resumes receive after control records, and closes connections on unsupported record types. It also moves the receive path off sock_recvmsg(), so SELinux socket_read no longer applies to NFSD TCP reads.
Why it matters: Avoids desynchronized TLS streams, hung RPC calls, stale encrypted sessions, and clarifies NFSD's SELinux mediation.

NFS delegation and callback races addressed
NFSD now includes referring calls in CB_RECALL, destroys delegations clients reject, stops sending NFSv4.1 recall-any callbacks to NFSv4.0 clients, and apportions recalls under memory pressure.
Why it matters: NFSv4 clients should no longer wedge on delegation races or lose callback service after server memory pressure.

NFSD memory-safety, leak, and information-leak fixes
Fixes use-after-free in EXCHANGE_ID, client_info_show, lockd retry, and GSS proxy teardown, plus ACL leaks on aborted COMPOUNDs, an out-of-bounds netlink status read, unzeroed XDR padding, and oversized GSS proxy tokens.
Why it matters: Closes several remotely triggerable crash, memory-leak, and information-leak paths and improves NFS server stability.

NFS client protocol and data-integrity fixes
Fixes NFSv2/v3 xprtsec mount crash, NFS/RDMA short-header data corruption, stale negative dentries after failed mkdir, stale attributes after remove, blkmapd upcall hangs, guarded OPEN returning NFS4ERR_EXIST, direct-I/O page pinning/alignment, and treats empty idmap upcall replies as negative cache entries.

pNFS scalability, layout robustness, and data-server selection
Enables large LAYOUTGET replies with retry, in-place device refresh on CHANGE, bounded callback allocations, scalable device and data-server caches, MDS auth reuse, no flexfiles when NFSv3 is disabled, and prevents wrong data-server selection from truncated stripe units/offsets. It also fixes hangs from interrupted DS connections and failing I/O after losing a byte-range lock.
Why it matters: Wide pNFS layouts work better, and clients avoid spurious layout returns, wrong data servers, hangs, and data loss.

NFS-over-TLS credentials scoped per network namespace
The NFS client now allocates a .nfs keyring per network namespace and passes the keyring serial into TLS x509 handshakes.
Why it matters: Containers using NFS-over-TLS can provision client credentials that stay correctly scoped to their namespace.

NTFS and exFAT
NTFS named streams, persistent attributes, and UUID
Adds ioctls and an optional streams_interface=windows mount option for Windows alternate data streams, implements persistent immutable/append-only/nodump/noatime flags via $LINUXFLAGS, and exposes the volume serial as the filesystem UUID.
Why it matters: Linux users can access ADS files, keep chattr settings across remounts, and identify NTFS volumes by UUID.

NTFS media validation and write-path safety
Hardens the driver against crafted images, keeps the dirty bit set until a clean unmount, reserves known-bad clusters, forces hibernated volumes read-only, refuses to return ciphertext for EFS-encrypted files, propagates fsync flush errors, and fixes several write-path races.
Why it matters: Mounting untrusted or Windows-suspended NTFS storage is less likely to crash, corrupt, or silently expose data.

exFAT reliability and swap support
Adds swap-file support, clears stale block-device buffers when clusters are reused, zeroes invalid tails on partial overwrites, handles full-volume writes as short writes, frees clusters after failed writes, and reads directories with camera-created over-long FAT chains.
Why it matters: exFAT drives are more dependable for swap and for data integrity after interrupted writes, and more camera media is readable.

kexec/kdump memory placement and crash-path fixes
Skips hardware-poisoned pages when loading kexec kernels, fixes a top-down search underflow, reports accurate image-probe errors, stops KHO from reserving scratch memory in kdump kernels, rejects non-page-aligned reserve_mem regions, and avoids interrupt-chip bus locks while masking IRQs on the crash path.
Why it matters: More reliable kexec/kdump boots on systems with memory errors, KHO, or interrupt controllers that depend on interrupts.

Memblock lookup speedup
Memblock now uses binary search to find candidate memory regions instead of linearly scanning the full list.
Why it matters: Boot time drops dramatically on systems with fragmented memory layouts, such as KHO with hundreds of thousands of regions.
MIPS/Octeon
Device tree support for legacy Octeon boards
Uses the MIPS_MACHINE mechanism to supply a device tree on Octeon boards whose old U-Boot does not pass one, including the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite.
Why it matters: Mainline Linux can run on EdgeRouter Lite and similar legacy Octeon hardware.
OCTEON II cache, TLB, and boot fixes
Corrects L2 register model and geometry, avoids a hard hang and false panic on pass 2 chips, and fixes hugetlb/TLB handling.
Why it matters: Prevents hangs, panics, and memory corruption on MIPS Octeon II systems.

Fixes modules_install breakage when -msym32 is unavailable and a generic MIPS build failure from an undefined ITS ramdisk image.

Adds a buffered_iomap mount option that migrates buffered read/write/writeback/mmap/zero-range to iomap while preserving the old path for unsupported inode features. Also fixes read-only mounts needing fast_commit recovery, delalloc data misreported as holes on indirect files, casefold rmdir deadlock, remount race, fast-commit buffer slot handling, online-resize OOB read, and jbd2 lock false sharing.
Why it matters: Ext4 users get a testable modern I/O path and fixes for hangs, races, and memory-safety issues.
